BASF DIFFUSER OUTFALLS

Palmyra, Missouri

BASF Chemical contracted with Massman to perform work in support of operations at their Palmyra, Missouri plant along the Mississippi River.

Massman worked with BASF’s prime contractor, Klocke, Inc., to pre-assemble and install 12-inch and 8-inch diameter lines to discharge treated effluent as part of BASF’s herbicide production operations. Four guide piles were driven for each outfall line. The steel frames that support each diffuser line were pre-assembled and installed onto the guide piles. The complete diffuser and pipe assembly were then lowered down the guide piles into the river, until the proper location on the pre-excavated river bottom was reached. The guide piles were filled with tremie concrete before being cut off with divers, and both lines were covered with bedding stone and rip-rap to complete the installation.
